GENERAL
The Controls Design Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical control systems, including PLC-based hardware, HMI design and programming, machine vision, and associated software. This role requires a balance of technical expertise and leadership capabilities, as the individual will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, from initial concept through design and implementation. The Controls Design Engineer II works closely with both internal teams and clients to ensure that control systems meet the technical specifications, industry standards, and customer needs. This position offers the opportunity to lead medium-scale projects, develop innovative solutions, and expand technical skills in an evolving field.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System Design and Development:
- Design and develop electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery, including PLC-based hardware, HMI design and programming, and machine vision systems.
- Create detailed design specifications, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
- Software Development:
- Develop PLC software from scratch following best practices and industry standards.
- Customize software solutions based on client needs and project specifications.
- Design and program Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, ensuring intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.
- Integrate machine vision systems to enable advanced automation and quality control.
- Project Leadership:
- Lead medium-scale projects, ensuring all design and implementation phases are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure adherence to project goals, timelines, and budgets.
- Client Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
- Conduct site visits and provide technical support during the commissioning and testing phases of projects.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including timesheets, reports, and design files.
- Prepare and submit Engineering Change Requests and Purchase Order Requisitions when necessary.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Design control systems in compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure all designs incorporate effective safety solutions and risk mitigation strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-7 years of experience in control systems design, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in PLC programming and control system design.
- Experience with HMI design and programming to create efficient, user-friendly interfaces.
- Experience with machine vision integration and programming for advanced automation applications.
- Familiarity with peripheral equipment platforms such as robotics and vision systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical control circuits, automation systems, and safety protocols.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with emerging automation technologies (e.g., IoT, machine learning).

- Project management certification (e.g., PMP) or relevant experience in leading projects.
- Experience with customer-facing roles or direct client communication.
