GENERAL
The Controls Design Engineer I (CDE1) is an entry-level position that focuses on building the foundation for a successful engineering career in control systems design. This role involves developing technical proficiency in PLC programming, HMI design, and control system technologies while actively participating in small-scale projects. The CDE1 will work closely with senior engineers, receive mentorship, and contribute to various stages of project work. Through hands-on training, learning, and experience, the individual will grow their technical knowledge and skills in control systems, preparing them for more complex project roles.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System Design and Development:
- Assist in designing and developing electrical control systems, including PLC programming, HMI design, and integration of control system components.
- Create and document basic electrical schematics and control system layouts under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Software Development:
- Learn and assist with developing PLC programs and HMI interfaces according to project specifications.
- Understand and apply OTI’s software standards in the development of control system software.
- Project Support:
- Support senior engineers in the execution of small-scale projects, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Assist with the preparation of project documentation, including design drawings, timesheets, and progress reports.
- Client Interaction:
- Gain exposure to client interactions by supporting senior engineers during project discussions, design reviews, and site visits.
- Continuous Learning:
- Participate in on-the-job training, shadowing senior engineers, and attending training programs to build technical expertise.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure that all project documentation, including design notes and updates, is accurately stored and tracked.
- Submit timesheets and project documents to Administration on time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 0–3 years of experience in control systems design, automation, or electrical engineering.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of PLC programming and control systems.
- Familiarity with HMI design and integration.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN) is preferred.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with emerging automation technologies.
- Basic understanding of industrial networking protocols and control system communication.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory compliance in automation and control systems.
